Tulcea
Tulcea, city, southeastern Romania, situated on the St. George arm of the Danube River. Tulcea is an ancient city. The Greeks and Romans called it Aegissus (Aegyssus). It is an important inland port, accessible from the Black Sea via the main Danube channels, and it is a centre for fishing and tourism along the smaller delta channels. Plants in Tulcea refrigerate, can, and pack fish for distribution throughout the country. Factories in the city process other foods and provide the fishing industry with tackle and small craft. Pop. (2007 est.) 92,379.
